LV Review Journal Attacks Yet Again

It never seems to stop with the editors of the LV Review Journal. They posted an editorial today about a firefighter in Clark county who was convicted of trying to arrange an encounter with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl.  The editors believe Nevada laws need to be changed to take away his PERS pension because he is now a convicted felon and are “outraged” at this.

What the Journal does not understand is this: a pension is a property right like anyone’s pension such as Social Security. The Constitution requires “due process” which means the court decides what a person must forfeit such as freedom, a house, car or money.

And what about a private sector employee who commits any felony? Should they be required to forfeit their pension, including Social Security? How about their 401k? What if a public employee or any employee commits a felony after they are retired?

Their proposal would set up a two tiered legal system and take away equal protection under the law for state and public employees. That is illegal and they fail to recognize this.

Asking for an unconstitutional law to attack public employees is ridiculous and underscores their extreme negative bias against public employees. Why are we still, listening to them?
