The Economic Forum and the State Employee Tax

The Economic Forum met today and decided on projected revenues for the next biennium and say Nevada will have 1.1 billion dollars less in revenue than what was budgeted in 2009. This is a decrease of about 17 percent. Their numbers are binding and they will meet later next year to update their figures.

Sandoval said he does not want to renew the 2009 tax increase, will not support any new taxes and will cut state agency budgets to balance the budget. This process will probably involve continuing state employee furloughs, implementing salary cuts across the board and lay offs.

This is a state employee tax… a tax on a specific group to fund services Nevadans want and need but do not want to pay for. It reaffirms my opinion about Sandoval’s plans… that he most certainly believes in new taxes but only for state employees.
