Furloughs Under Consideration Today

The senate is considering a bill (SB 3) to start a four-day week ( four 10-hour days) for most agencies and simultaneously add an additional 2 furlough hours per month. Most agencies would be closed on Fridays.

The bill in part says:

“… agencies must be closed on Fridays and be open for the transaction of business at least from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. The workweek of the employees of those offices must consist of four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday.”

Employees exempted from furloughs would have to take a 5.75 percent pay cut the same amount that furloughs take in pay. All overtime is to be first approved by state personnel.
