Gibbons True to his Vindictive Self

Today, Governor Gibbons  spoke to the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce  so he should have done well. It is a group very friendly because they just love his management motto, “No new taxes”. Except for one businessman in the crowd who asked a few questions about the higher education cuts. Gibbons’ had to rely on his Gibby gab to answer and as expected, he didn’t do well. His responses also showed his ignorance and arrogance.

NOTE: The Chamber publicly supported his vindictive and punitive plan on January 18, 2009. (“Mixed reactions to Gibbons’ budget proposal; chamber of commerce applauds; PLAN slams it“)

In the exchange, Gibbons became irritated and declared Nevada needs a renewable energy economy supported by business and not higher education. His ignorance is breathtaking. He does not understand that businesses need educated employees and supporting higher education is investing in business.

Unable to get out of the debate, he deflected blame for the budget cuts on a $16,000 desk he said someone at the University bought and it was the Board of Regents’ fault, not his.

Wow, hundreds of millions in cuts because of a mythlogical desk. I thought he used complex spreadsheets and a dart board to balance the budget. Who knew?

The Governor must stop blaming the budget problems on state employees and expecting them to balance it with program, salary and benefits cuts.  Both the Chamber and the Governor have failed the people they represent.  Applauding ignorance and arrogance as the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce has done is a foolish thing to do and solves nothing.
